As per reports by the WABetaInfo, WhatsApp is currently testing a new feature that could enable you to add new contacts using just QR code. They go further to elaborate that WhatsApp is currently testing the beta feature on iOS, though works on having the feature on Android is also ongoing.

As it works out, each user will have their own unique QR code and can add a new contact by simply scanning their QR code using their smartphone camera. After scanning, WhatsApp will find the contacts information automatically.

Users will also have the option of revoking the code so that it cannot be used indefinitely to add them to another user’s contact list. In addition to the option of adding users via a QR code, WhatsApp is reportedly working on a new fresh interface for adding new contacts directly on the app.WhatsApp qr code

Currently, there is no way to quickly chatting with a new contact on WhatsApp. You must first manually save them to your phonebook before WhatsApp can pick up the new contacts and enable you to chat with them. Even after adding a new contact, you must refresh WhatsApp before it can pick up the new contact in your contact list.

WhatsApp catching up to other IM apps with the QR Code

Other instant messaging and social network platform such as Snapchat and Instagram adopted the use of QR codes a long time ago. It is now that WhatsApp is playing catchup. For Snapchat, it has the Snapcode, while Instagram has the Nametags.

The use of the QR code is also popular with WeChat users. The only place where WhatsApp has been using QR code is when connecting the mobile app with a desktop client.

Commercial Application for WhatsApp QR Code

WhatsApp is a great tool for businesses to communicate with customers. And as a business, you want the process for your customer to start communicating with you as quick and stress-free as possible.

With the QR code, businesses could simply print it out on stickers around their premises, invoices, or receipts. And their customers can simply scan the stickers and instantly begin communicating with the business.
