Yes, Facebook wants you to send them nude pictures – discreetly of course – so they can protect you from revenge porn. You know how you and bae got this crazy idea that you should record the two of you going horizontal? But that bae, is now your ex, and maybe you didn’t part ways on such good terms. Feelings were hurt, someone feels betrayed, and what not. If you are afraid that your former bae is going to leak your dirty deeds between the sheets online. Then send Mark and his team over at Facebook your nudes.
How sending nudes to Facebook will protect you from revenge porn
So Mark and company are currently running a pilot program in Australia; where they have a small select group of users send them their nudes discreetly over the Messenger app. Then Facebook hashes those nude images and converts them into a digital fingerprint that uniquely identifies your body (read nude body).
In the unfortunate event, your ex decides to post them on Facebook as a way of getting back to you. Facebook will run a quick scan of the video and using your previously hashed image, which became your digital fingerprint, they will recognize your nude body and prevent the video from every being posted on the social network.
That said, if you know you played in front of the camera while getting freaky with your ex, you better undress right now, take some snaps and send it to Facebook. However, you will have to wait a little longer before undressing, as the program is still in the pilot phase in Australia. If (or when) it advances to the stable stage and available in your region, then better undress for the guys you don’t know working at Facebook rather than have your nude video shared among close family and friends you share with your ex.
