A Three Day Community Tech-Workshop Organized By BiTHouse During The SXSWedu
BiTHouse is a subsidiary of the Strategic Diversity Group, and it is working together with Emma S. Barrientos Mexican American Cultural Center which has been a tremendous resource to the minority community. BiTHouse’s Soul + Tech Connect “Inclusion Factors” Initiatives is aimed at bridging the gap in business, diversity and technology and focuses on the following areas: food, health, language, sustainability, transportation, civic engagement, music, finance and entertainment. The youths will be taught on various issues including building of websites to showcase their capabilities in terms of who they are and what potential they have in terms of futuristic developments. The youth event will last for two days, mainly intended for youths in 6th to 10th grades. Youths who fit this category are encouraged to register here.
On Tuesday, the 4th of March the second annual BiTHouse Pitch Competition will be held, minority group members planning to attend the SXSW event are highly encouraged to participate in this BiTHouse Pitch event. Those who will be selected for this event will get the chance to have a 4 minute business presentation to entrepreneurs, business leaders, VCs, angels and media professionals on the 5th of March 2014 between 10:30AM to 12:00PM. Venue will be at the Emma S. Barrientos Mexican American Cultural Center, Austin, Texas. Interested community members and startups founders must register for this event before 1st March 2014 by filling an online form found here.
In the afternoon of 5th March, there will be Panel discussions on the following topics: Stereotypes, Society and Culture, Technology and Education – How to Prepare for a Career in Technology? How Social Media and Marketing Provokes Leadership Diversity, Food + Tech + Health, Education and Technology: Resources Utilized to Increase Minority Interest in STEM, Wearable Technologies, Aiding with Health Disparities and Disabilities.
The “Inclusion Factors” Initiative was created by BiTHouse to address the national growing trend of conversations and initiatives that are focusing on the technology diversification. A research reports indicates that a group comprising of members from different ethnicities, life experience, work background and gender are better able to solve complex problems in a shorter time compared to homogenous groups.
