Following a very successful inaugural African Women in Tech (AWIT) Conference in East Africa in Kenya’s capital Nairobi (#AWITKenya); a conference that registered:

Networking Session (Wed, July 20th) – At the Nairobi Garage the attendees were mainly community leaders and students that could not attend an all-day session.

Day 1 (Thurs, July 21st) – AWITKenya, official kickoff day that saw about 120 women grace the occasion. The event was held at the Kenyatta University main campus.

Day 2 (Fri, July 22nd) – AWITKenya’s second and last day, 160 women were in attendance.

The AWITKenya conference attendees were 60% developers and 40% participants with non-technical backgrounds. The conference also created enough social media clout that the hashtag #AWITKenya trended both in Kenya and New York for the two days of the conference.

Part 2 of AWITGhana Conference Date Announced

AWIT is already preparing for its second conference in Africa, which will be in:

Accra, Ghana

Venue: Impact Hub Accra

Address: Otswe Street, Osu Ako Adjei

On December 15th – 17th, 2016

Like the first conference in Kenya, AWITGhana will be one of its kind event seeking to provide attendees a unique blend of hands-on and deep-dive tech workshops, information sharing, and discussions by professional women (and men) within the tech space. All aimed at encouraging and mentoring young girls to pursue STEM-based education programs and careers.

While most conferences like this focus mainly on coding. AWITGhana is going to concentrate on all aspects of technology; from the very technical aspects of it to the human experience and applicability to real-life situations. The speakers and attendees at the conference will be from many different types of jobs and seniority; from college girls to senior executives in companies.
