The Legatum Prosperity Index (LPI) 2014 has tabled a report after assessing the prosperity levels across 142 countries across the world. The research took into account eight core sub-indices: safety and security, personal freedom, governance and economy (scores ranging from -5=lowest to 5-highest).

When the LPI 2014 is compared to the LPI 2013, it emerges that six of the ten most improved countries are from sub-Saharan Africa. This includes Kenya and Rwanda, which have both improved considerably compared to India. To reinforce this, the Economy Sub-Index also reveals that six out of the ten most economically improved countries are from sub-Saharan Africa.

Under the Personal Freedom Sub-Index, that measures the performance and progress of nations in guaranteeing individual freedom and encouraging social tolerance. Benin came at position 26 and leading in Africa and outdoing Brazil (27) and Italy (63). Other twelve sub-Saharan countries featured with Ghana coming in at position 60 and Kenya at 66; outdoing India (78), China (117) and Russia (124).

Under the Safety and Security Sub-Index, the leading African countries are Ghana (60), Djibouti (79), Burkina Faso (80), Namibia (82) and Botswana (84). They outdid Brazil (86) Russia (96), China (97) and India (119).
