During Microsoft’s event in Shanghai, China, the Redmond tech giant unveiled to the world the latest Surface Pro (the successor of the Surface Pro 4).
Given the enormous gap between the time Surface Pro 4 was released and the Surface Pro (2017), we hope Microsoft made right, the little mishaps that were in the Pro 4. Do you remember #SurfaceGate? A term coined, to sum up, the little mishaps that bedeviled the Pro 4, such as Skylake’s hardware issues, faster battery drain, and reliability concerns.
We hope the company took its sweet time tweaking out all the little mishaps in Pro 4, making the Surface Pro 5 (or Surface Pro as it is being branded) the ultimate Microsoft’s 2-in-1 device.
Surface Pro Specs and Features
As far as the outer chassis goes, the Surface Pro maintained the same chassis (in design and connectors) as its predecessors. A move Microsoft says was meant to ensure compatibility between keyboards and cases. However, it does come with a major hardware improvement; the hinges are way better than those of its predecessor make the new Surface Pro lie down even flatter.
The chassis and connectors are just about all the similarity there is between the Surface Pro (2017) and say, the Surface Pro 4 or any of its predecessor. Under the hood, it comes with significant hardware upgrades.
The Surface Pro (5) has the Intel 7th Gen chip; Kaby Lake. A fanless Intel processor that gives you more processing power, with minimum heat production; so much so that it has no fans. Meaning you get more battery life. 13.5 hours of battery life according to Microsoft, who go further to say you don’t need to carry your charger with you. This device, you can take it from home to work, and back to home again without a need for a recharge.
The Redmond tech giant says this laptop power last 50% more than the Pro 4 and 35% more than the iPad Pro. They go further to say it gives you 2.5 times more computing power that the Surface Pro 3 and 1.7 times than the iPad Pro.
The new Surface Pro is the lightest device in the Surface Pro family, weighing at just 1.7 lbs and 8.5mm thin. It is probably lighter than the bag you will be carrying it in. The laptop also comes with a high-resolution 12.3-inch PixelSense™ with 267ppi and 3:2 aspect ratio. It has 50% more pixels that the 12-inch MacBook.
New upgraded Stylus Pen
Though you can make pre-orders for the device, those that will be shipping later in the year will come with LTE Advanced connectivity. The laptop also works with the new on-screen Surface Dial and has a redesigned Surface pen as well. One that is more natural and responsive compared to the previous stylus pens made by Microsoft.
The stylus is said to have 4096 pressure points, 21 milliseconds of latency, and a new tilt functionality. It gives users a more fluid and real-to-life inking experience.
