Multinational LG Electronics has launched a dedicated Online LG Brand Shop in Kenya

Kenyan electronics consumers will be pleased to know that the multinational LG Electronics has set up an e-commerce site dedicated to serving them. That means, Kenyans can go online and buy their favorite LG electronics directly from the company without having to pass through middlemen (retailers).

No doubt, this move will improve assurance to the consumers that they are buying genuine products from the company. At a time when LG-branded counterfeits and other imitations from other companies are awash in the market.

The setting up of the LG online shop also increases competition in the local market scene. As already the e-commerce market is getting crowded with some of the noteworthy shops like Jumia and Kilimall set to defend their market share.

All these online shops will be seeking to wrestle each other for the growing market mainly formed by a fast-growing middle class and widespread adoption of smartphones and internet use.

The LG Online Shop Catalogue, Warranty, and Delivery

The LG shop will stock a broad range of electronics and home appliances like fridges, TVs, audio systems, microwaves, vacuum cleaners, and washing machines among others. It is so disappointing that the online store is yet to catalog smartphone.

Nonetheless, all LG products come with a two-year warranty, and upon checkout, the company will deliver the goods free of charge country-wide.

One-year free insurance for goods over Ksh.60,000

That’s right, LG is giving you insurance if you buy goods worth Ksh. 60,000 ($600) and above. Now that is a deal that would make most (if not all) consumers not even consider buying their LG electronics and home appliances from other competing online stores.

The online shop, branded as LG Brand Shop is already up and running at; though the site doesn’t seem https:// secure, which could mean two things. LG has yet to roll out the site features fully, or there has been an oversight. You don’t expect an e-commerce site to run without top-level encryption these days.

Cash Payment upon Delivery

The LG Brand Shop has taken a brave move – one other e-commerce sites in the country avoid – of payment being made by cash upon delivery. Though it seems the cash payment is might just be a just-for-now feature; which brings me to my earlier point.

The LG Brand Shop is not yet fully up and running, as there are numerous digital/online payment options, it could have used ranging from Visa to mobile money services like M-Pesa.

The LG Managing Director East and Central Africa, Janghoon Chung said, “We are thrilled to launch online shopping in Kenya. This significant milestone fully rounds out LG’s multichannel offering. Along with seven retail stores and products available in major supermarkets, our customers in Kenya will now have twenty-four-hour access to the best of our innovative, genuine and quality products via their computers, smartphones, and tablets from anywhere in the country.”
