Brooklyn, N.Y.: The NBA Foundation has announced Digital Girl, Inc. as one of their grant awardees. The grant will allow Digital Girl Inc. to continue to provide exposure to business technology and also serves as a confidence builder for students as they prepare to enter the workforce. This is the NBA Foundation’s fourth round of grant awards, as part of its Season of Giving, to help create employment opportunities, further career advancement, and drive greater economic empowerment for Black youth.

Research indicates that young people who are surrounded by a variety of opportunities for engagement encounter less risk and ultimately show evidence of higher rates of successful transitions into adulthood.

“The Pandemic has definitely put a spotlight on the digital divide that exists and how essential access to technology and digital skills training are in the current marketplace,” says Michelle Gall, Founder and Executive Director of Digital Girl, Inc. “The received funding will subsidize our Digital Literacy Workforce Development Programming and help ensure the youth of Central Brooklyn receives this vital preparation.”

Created in August 2020, with a 10-year $300 million commitment by the 30 NBA team governors, the NBA Foundation is the league’s first-ever charitable foundation. Greg Taylor, NBA Foundation Executive Director commented, “We’re excited to announce our latest round of awards to 38 new, deserving non-profit organizations. We are confident that our support will create short- and long-term advancement opportunities for these organizations and the communities that they serve.”

Digital Girl, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, dedicated to empowering inner-city youth, particularly young girls, to pursue careers and studies in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM).
