Nigeria’s FinTech Company Paga inks Strategic Partnership deal with Visa

Visa has entered into a partnership with Paga

The Lagos-based mobile payment company Paga, Founded in 2009 by Tayo Oviosu (pictured right), has grown in leaps and bounds. Though its most robust presence is within the West African market, the fintech company has extended its branches into Ethiopia and Mexico.

In Nigeria alone, Paga has created a multi-channel network consisting of more than 14 million customers. The customers use the platform to send and receive money, pay utility bills, and make purchases.

Paga’s new Height of Success

Yesterday through a blog post published in the company’s Medium account, Paga announced that it had entered into a new partnership with the global payments tech company Visa.

A partnership that will see the two companies work closely and in synergy to facilitate secure, fast-tracked, and convenient payments.

Paga’s systems integration into Visa systems will make a smooth flow of funds through the vibrant mobile money-based payments systems for consumers and merchants in the markets.

Particularly markets where Paga has some presences.

This partnership is in line with Visa’s goals to drive alternative payment channels, in this case, mobile wallets, within its global ecosystem,” wrote Paga.

The Paga & Visa partnership will see accelerated mobile money payments

Thanks to this partnership, Paga customers can now access Visa’s credentials like physical and

virtual cards, which can now be linked to their Paga accounts. Giving Paga customers the ability to make transactions anywhere around the world where they accept Visa.

Paga acquired US-based IT company Apposit

Earlier this year, Paga announced another impressive milestone. The Nigerian fintech company had acquired a US-based software development company Apposit. Though Apposit is based in the US, much of its activities run in Ethiopia.

Hence, the decision by Paga to enter the Ethiopian market as well; after the acquisition of Apposit.

The Nigerian fintech company has also set up camp in Mexico and is currently working on deploying operations in that country by the end of 2020.
