Kenya’s leading telecom, Safaricom, must be feeling pretty damn proud of itself following the nomination of the November-2018-launched M-Pesa Global to the Global Mobile Awards 2019 (GLOMO).
If you are not familiar with GLOMO, and why it is such a big deal. Just think of it as the Oscars that awards the best of the best in innovation within the mobile industry.
M-Pesa Global as mentioned earlier is a new mobile money service that allows Safaricom subscribers to send money to any individual across the world. The service works through a variety of channels including direct deposit into a recipient’s bank accounts. Safaricom has also partnered with Western Union, to have the latter’s agents act as pick up points for money sent via M-Pesa Global.
The winners of the GLOMO 2019 will be announced at this year’s Mobile World Congress (MWC 19) set take place on February 25-28 in Barcelona.
Not Safaricom’s debut at GLOMO
This is not Safaricom’s first nomination to the GLOMO awards. In 2018, the telecom featured through a new product dubbed Shupavu 291 it developed in partnership with the Eneza Education. The product went ahead to win the Best Mobile Invention for Education category in the GLOMO 2018.
