Skype Users Get 20 Minutes Free Calls As Compensation For Recent Outage

September 21st, Skypers (Skype users) woke up to the rude reality that they could not be able to transact their virtual businesses over the Skype. The services were offline worldwide. Microsoft came out apologizing for the inconvenience and gave the explanation behind the outage.

It is now a little over three weeks since the Skype outage, and Microsoft has decided to compensate Skypers for the inconvenience caused by giving free 20 minutes calls. In a letter, Skype wrote the following:

To make it up to you, over the next few days we will add 20 minutes of free calls to over 60 landlines and eight mobile destinations around the world.

On September 21, we experienced an issue that prevented us from delivering our mission. We’re sorry for the technical issue we suffered that day. We know how important our service is to you and how frustrating outages like this can be. We also know that sometimes saying sorry just isn’t enough.”

The free call will only available for seven days. According to the explanation given by Skype, they had released a larger-than-usual configuration change that some Skype version could not process correctly. This update is what caused the Skype outage experience on September 21st and left many Skypers disconnected.

To compensate for the inconvenience caused to Skypers, Microsoft is giving 20 minutes free calls, but will only be available for use for just seven days. However, this compensation will not be available to individuals thinking to take advantage of this opportunity and open their first new Skype account to get the free 20 minutes calls.
