African Techie Develop Tress App; The Go-To Social Network For Hairstyles Inspiration

In human beings world, the female species are obsessed with their hair. Unlike other species in the animal kingdom where it is often the males that have the need to express themselves overly in beautiful hair and splendor colors.

Take, for instance, in a pride of lions; it is only the males that have a beautiful mane, in a flock of birds; the male birds often have beautiful and brightly colored feathers than the females.

As women, we are so obsessed with our hair, and if possible, we would spend just about any amount to make them look as beautiful as possible. As African (Black) women, we have to work on our hair a little bit extra due to its kinkiness; so much so that the Black haircare industry has grown into a $500 billion industry.

Nonetheless, we all like being spotted rocking a different kind of hairstyles now and then. We change our hairstyles so much that soon enough we run out of ideas and start repeating the old hair styles. The really persistent ones among us resort to stocking other women on Facebook and Instagram just to copy their hairstyles.

Well, a team of African techie has come up with a useful app Tress, where women from anywhere in the world can share pictures of their different hairstyles. That way, the Tress app becomes women’s go-to place to get inspirations and aspirations for their next hairstyle.

Whether, you are thinking of rocking a weave, cornrows, braids, locs, wig caps, extensions, relaxed hair or anything in-between. Tress mobile app is your one-stop-shop for a full collection of hair inspiration.

Just download the app, browse through the various hairstyles submitted by different women from different parts of the world. If you see something new, something you like, have your hairdresser have a look at it and voila! You will be rocking the latest hair style in fashion in Nairobi, Lagos, Pretoria, Brooklyn, or from any other part of the world where Black women are ‘rocking’ swag-hairstyles.

The Tress app is the creation of three African female techies, Priscilla Haze, Esther Olatunde and Cassandra Sarfo, who met at the award winning Meltwater Entrepreneurial School of Technology program.

They became instant friends when they met at the event, and long story short they came up with the Tress app that officially launched on February 25, 2016, at the Lagos Social Media Week.

Many ladies routinely find themselves in the awkward position of walking up to complete strangers to compliment and inquire about their hair, or stalk social media accounts for inspiration as well as adequate information about the style,” said Hazel the CEO of Tress.

We’re excited to have Tress become active in all kinds of media products for Black women; television, magazines, events, and more. Our vision for Tress is to be an active social network of Black women thriving in all aspects of their lives, and we’re keen to partner with like-minded organization and individuals who’re excited to help make this happen.”

You can download the Tress app to your Android device from Google Play Store.
