Digital Girl, Inc. Hosts First Parental Technology Workshop

Non-profit Start-Up, Digital Girl, Inc. hosts a Parent Technology Workshop at Public School 21, Crispus Attucks Elementary School! Digital Girl, Inc will educate parents on internet safety, social media trends, the importance of STEM in the workplace in the future and will even give them a crash course on coding!

Computer science drives innovation in the US economy and society. Despite a growing demand for jobs in the field, it remains marginalized throughout the US K-12 education system. Technology and software industries suffer from an extreme lack of diversity. Computer Science students on average are only 18% female, 3% black and 8% Hispanic.

Informing parents on the basics of technology will allow them to be more involved in their children’s digital footprint and safety. In addition, parental technical awareness helps them recognize opportunities for their children to get involved in STEM and to encourage their children take advantage of these opportunities in order to become technology leaders.

Digital Girl Incorporated is a-not-for profit organization dedicated to empowering the underserved young girls of Bedford Stuyvesant to pursue careers in STEM disciplines, therefore maximizing their potential to be contributing individuals in society.
