Google Nigeria Gives Easy Taxi Drivers In Lagos A Tuition On Google Maps

Easy Taxi launched in Nigeria in July 2013. It is a mobile app that connects independent taxi drivers registered to the Easy Taxi network with passengers in need of a taxi drive. The app has proved to connect passengers and drivers in a smooth, safe and easy way.

However, majority of taxi drivers operating in Lagos are not enjoying the full advantage of the app since they are not well conversant on how to use Google Maps and GPS gadgets. In response to this “gizmos-illiteracy” Easy Taxi Nigeria

has invited Google Nigeria staffs to train the Lagos drivers on how to use Google maps and GPS devices. Easy Taxi appreciates the effectiveness of the maps in navigation, tracking and ensuring safety of the passengers and the drivers.

Easy Taxi Nigeria CEO, Bankole Cardose says this new move will now ensure that Lagos taxi drivers can now be just as competent like their international counterparts who are more informed and experience on using Google maps.

With the training Easy Taxi Nigeria drivers have received today, they will be able to get to their clients faster and easier which will reduce our clients waiting time”, said Easy Taxi, Community Manager, Rita Achebe. During the slide show presentation showing drivers on the correct way to search for a particular location on the map, Easy Taxi

encourage the drivers to embrace Google maps usage as it would enable them to know the best and fastest routes to their destination thereby cutting down on customer wait time. It would also enable the drivers to know the distance from their current location to the client’s location.

Easy Taxi drivers will also be cooperating with Google to chart all the Lagos areas that are still blank. Leading up to the creation of a more accurate and well detailed Google map of the State of Lagos; this will be also be used to gauge if the drivers benefited from the training offered by Google on the use of maps and GPS.

One of the drivers registered to Easy Taxi, Okoya Cosmas, said upon joining Easy Taxi Nigeria some 8 months ago. His service delivery to his clients has improved significantly, added to the training given by Google Nigeria. He will be able to meet his client’s demands faster now.
