How Could X’s (Twitter) New Subscription Model Work?

On Friday, X CEO, Elon Musk made a new announcement on Friday regarding the subscription model of his app X, or Twitter.

In his announcement, Musk said that he was planning on making two new subscription models.

“Two new tiers of X Premium subscriptions launching soon. One is lower cost with all features, but no reduction in ads, and the other is more expensive, but has no ads,” Musk Tweeted on October 20.

The move has come after X had stated that it would begin to charge all its users a $ 1 fee to access the platform and had even rolled out the feature in New Zealand and the Philippines.

X Premium

Currently, X Premium is an $ 8 a month subscription model that allows users to access extra features on X, such as editing tweets, fewer ads, priority in conversations, longer posts and formatting their text among other benefits.

It is, however, unclear as to how X will divide the features on the new subscription model and those who don’t sign up.

However, what is becoming apparent is that using X or twitter will be very different for those users who do not subscribe to X Blue.

With the new subscription model, it means that more and more people could sign up to X Premium, while features for those who do not sign up could be reduced even further.

For example, in the $ 1 subscription fee rolled out in New Zealand and the Philippines, Twitter users who don’t subscribe can view posts but not interact with them in any way.

Thus, we could see a greater incentive for people to sign up for X Premium if Elon Musk goes ahead with the new changes he has announced. The changes are in keeping with a raft of changes Musk has made since acquiring the app in 2022.
