No More Nokia Brand Name on Microsoft’s Smartphones, Just Microsoft Lumia
Tech giant, Microsoft is planning to ditch the Nokia brand-name, after less than a year’s run of producing smartphones under the brand name Nokia Lumia. All new smartphones from Microsoft will be known as Microsoft Lumia.
However, Nokia’s non-mobile division which was not acquired by Microsoft will continue operating under the Nokia brand name. Nokia was acquired by Microsoft back in April, at a price tag of $7.2billion. Since this acquisition, Microsoft has been working silently to move away from operating the mobile division under the Nokia brand.
The renaming of the mobile operations will take place soon, despite the fact, Microsoft agreed to a 10-year deal, of operating the mobile division under the Nokia name. Nokia France made a post on its Facebook page confirming this change in the brand name.
Microsoft is said to be currently reducing employees head-counts and a big percentage of employees to be laid off are said to have joined Microsoft during the Nokia acquisition.
