That Chinese brands likes Huawei, OPPO, and Infinix have been giving smartphones OEMs heavy weights like Apple and Samsung a fearsome run for their money is no secret. Huawei has launched a new budget smartphone in the Kenya market, the Huawei GR3 2017.
Huawei silently unveiled this product into other global markets around Africa and Asia. There was not much fuss or buzz created around the launch event. Last week, it was launched in Nigeria and Ghana, a month after being launched in Algeria; the first country in the continent where Huawei launched.
Huawei GR3 2017 Specs, Features
By all relevant standards, the GR3 2017 is the Honor 8 Lite just repackaged. It is a spin off Huawei’s budget sub-brand Honor. There is another variation of the device, the Huawei Nova Lite.
The device comes running the EMUI 5.0 overlay software by Huawei, premiered last year on the Mate 9 smartphone. It has a 5.2-inch display and same specs as the Huawei GR3 2016; 3GB RAM, 16GB ROM, 12MP rear camera, 8MP front camera, fingerprint reader at the back, 4G LTE connectivity and Kirin 655 processor by HiSilicon (a subsidiary of Huawei).
The phone retail price is Ksh. 24,000 (about $230) at all Huawei branded outlets and Safaricom shops.
