Black Dating App now allows Users to suggest matches for friend & search for Potential Mates from nearly 1,000 tribes and Ethnic Groups

Who: Black woman owned Afridate App, the dating app that helps users search for eligible black singles by ethnicity or nationality, anywhere in the world today announced a name, brand, and identity change to CultureCrush.

What: The rebrand is accompanied by a suite of new upgrades and features for users to enjoy, including a friend to friend matchmaking add-on as well as the ability to now search for suitors by tribe in triablized countries. CultureCrush

“Our name has changed but our aim is very much the same – to create a thoughtful, inclusive, and safe community for black singles and those who love them,” said CultureCrush Co-Founder Amanda Spann. “CultureCrush better reflects our commitment to black and African Diaspora communities globally.”

CultureCrushThe rebrand comes on the heels of race-related tensions surrounding the focus of AfriDate on creating meaningful connections for those throughout the African Diaspora. Users of all backgrounds have recently been very vocal on social media platforms with some praising the app for its focus on a largely neglected demographic in the mobile application dating space, and others condemning the app as racist for its perceived exclusion of those who are not members of the Diaspora.

In changing to CultureCrush, the founders seek to make it clear that while the app is aimed at black love beyond borders, all are welcome to fellowship and connect with eligible singles from diverse backgrounds.

New app features include:

Search by Tribe – Users can now list their tribe on their personal profiles in addition to being able search for potential matches by their country of origin, ethnicity or tribe.

Matchmake a Friend – Swipe across someone who’s not quite your type but just right for friend? CultureCrush now offers the capacity to link friends to your account so that you may refer matches to one another.

Message Countdown – Act Fast! Users now have up to 72 hours to message each other after matching or face losing the match forever.

All Countries – To extend the network to the ever expanding African Diaspora and those looking to date in this space, CultureCrush now includes every country in the world.

Why:

On traditional dating apps both black men and black women get the lowest response rates for their respective genders. As cited by Quatz.

In 2009, OkCupid released a watershed study that quantified online dating’s uncomfortable racial bias, confirming what many people of color already knew: It’s another platform that allows racism to thrive. The study was re-conducted in 2014 and the results were similar: 82% of non-black men on OkCupid show some bias against black women.
