US Chamber of Commerce, The World Bank, South African Airways, NewWave Telecom & Technologies, AppsTech, Afrinection and Host of Business Development Sponsors Rally in Support of Diaspora Innovators
Washington, DC November 3, 2016 – tiphub Africa, the investment manager for startups in Africa and the African Diaspora is delighted to announce the expansion of its Diaspora Demo Startup Showcase into a multi-day Interactive Summit. As the largest gathering of African and African-American led startups and social enterprises outside of the continent of Africa, Diaspora Demo aims to spotlighting the next wave of emerging innovators.
Hosted in affiliation with the US Chamber of Commerce, The World Bank, South African Airways, AppsTech, Afrinection and NewWave Telecom & Technologies Demo Day 2.0 will highlight 12 dynamic businesses from 8 different countries ranging across a variety of sectors at the US Chamber of Commerce on November 11th.
Each of the participating startups partook in a 6 week virtual accelerator and on-site residency at I/O Spaces and were provided with an assortment of business development tools, resources and services from event partners including Sendgrid, Amazon Web Services, Morgan Lewis, Wetogethr, the African Technology Foundation and Facebook Start.
“Over the last seven weeks, the Diaspora Demo founders have grown tremendously through their mentorship engagement, consultation and workshop sessions. However the most amazing outcome has been the rapport and collaboration they’ve built among each other,” says tiphub co-founder Chika Umeadi. “They’ve been separated by thousands of miles but have rallied around their shared challenges and unified goal; to build impactful and game changing companies. This group truly epitomizes the hustle, grit and determination necessary to build companies that will change the world.”
The startup showcase is scheduled to include a live stream session from HopStop.com and GigaMeet Founder Chinedu Echeruo, a keynote from NewWave President & CEO Patrick Munis and a panel moderated by Anie Akpe, CEO of IBOM LLC featuring Microsoft’s Melinda Moyo, Daily Spark Media Founder Muoyo Okome and Mitu Yilma and Tia Ayele of Addis Ideas.

Diaspora Demo Day will be preceded by a series of business development workshops on November 10th at the World Bank facilitated by key partners including Village Capital, Capria VC, Digital Growth Africa Middle East (DiGAME), Accion Venture Labs and the US Department of State /International diaspora Engagement Alliance (IdEA).
