Dr. Ndubuisi Ekekwe: A Nigerian Genius Making Remarkable Tech StridesDr. Ndubuisi Ekekwe was born in Ovim, in Abia State, where he attended the Secondary Technical School. He passed his SSCE/WASC with flying colors obtaining 8 distinctions which included A2 in Further Mathematics thereby setting his school’s all-time record as the best exam results in that examination. His gifted brain power started showcasing at his early years, as attested by the fact that he prepared himself for other none-science subjects and also score highly attaining a distinction in GCE.

Dr. Ekekwe had an insatiable passion for science, which lead him to obtaining Bachelor Degree in Engineering specializing in Electronics/Computer Engineering from the Federal University of Technology in 1998. He was the best student in the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department at that institution. He proceeded with higher learning which lead him to obtain four masters degrees: MTech (Federal University of Technology, Akure) MSE (Johns Hopkins University, USA) Ms (Tuskegee University, USA) and MBA (University of Calabar). He also obtained two Doctorates in Management from St. Clements University and an Electrical & Computer Engineering where he specialized in Microelectronics & Medical Robotics Engineering from the John Hopkins University, USA.

Some of his greatest research work, involved manufacturing of integrated circuits with application on alternative energies, biomedical systems, medical robotics and neuromorphics (area dealing with creation of human artificial organs like the brain, retinas and cochlea). When Dr. Ekekwe began his Doctorate degree at the Johns Hopkins University, shortly after obtaining his Masters at the Tuskegee University, he had a CGPA of 4/4 in the Electrical Engineering field. With such great academic brilliance, he was awarded the very prestigious United States ERC/National Science Foundation and the Johns Hopkins University Fellowships. While undertaking his masters program, he was award the United States EMCWA scholarship as well as given the opportunity to work on NASA’s Jet Propulsion Project whose focus was studying the distribution of high frequency into space.

His remarkable brain power and contribution to science and technology earned him several high profile awards that included the United Kingdom Congress on Computer Assisted Surgery, nomination to the Johns Hopkins Institutions Diversity Recognition Awards and last but not least the award of SAMSTAG fellowship at the Johns Hopkins University Whiting School of Engineering. All this high profiled awards and recognition was for Dr. Ekekwe being an outstanding graduate student.

Dr. Ndubuisi Ekekwe is also certified in numerous key fields in technology and has to his name several high ranking publications of technical papers ranked among the leading journals and conferences about technology. He also has two pending patents on Microelectronics and works as a consultant to Universities, Tech-Firms and the World Bank. He is also the serving principal investigator on emerging Africa’s First Microelectronics institute and has visiting appointments to two high profiled African Universities.

Dr. Ekekwe is also the founder and the President of the African Institution of Technology. This company’s mission is to facilitate provision of practical education support, encourage enactment of technology policies and facilitating the bottom-up creativity technology emanating from the African economies. He also got an inclusion into the Marquis Who’s Who in America in the 2010 edition as well into Strathmore’s Who’s Who Worldwide in 2009, he also authored a high profiled tech-book named, Nanotechnology and Microelectronics: Global Diffusion, Economics and Policy, by IGI Global.
