Following a successful run in 217, the Ekasi Tech Fest and Gaming Expo 2018 is set to be held in Soweto, South Africa from October 19-20.
The event ‘Ekasi Tech Fest 2018’ will take place at the Dlamini Multi-Purpose Hall in Soweto, and it will be the first event to merge gaming and innovative technology under the same roof. The event is geared toward unlocking the potential for innovation and development on both the gaming and technology front in the Southern African space.
The Ekasi Tech Fest will also feature the Soweto E-Sports Community Cup Final where pro gamers in titles such as Tekken 7, FIFA, and Counter-Strike will go head-to-head against one another, and the winner walks home with an award.
“There’s the Silicon Valley model, and then there’s the Ekasi, innovation model. Events like the Ekasi Tech Fest help people in the developing world uncover new ways of growing their own digital economies in ways that more conventional markets never imagined,” said Mpho Tladi, the spokesperson for the Ekasi Tech Fest organizing community.
The expo is working towards becoming South Africa’s leading platform for innovative startups from both the tech and gaming realm to meet and engage with policymakers, the private sector, and the South African community at large. The end goal being, enabling those startups to commercialize their innovations, of course.
The expo will also feature an educational forum where attendees get to learn more about next-level video game and technology behind it, Virtual Reality (VR) and Augmented Reality (AR). The will also be discussion panels featuring professional gamers who will discuss the prospects of pursuing gaming as a career.
