World-renowned music legend Yvonne Chaka Chaka is now the NEPAD Agency’s Goodwill Ambassador for TB and nutrition.
Yvonne, who is now a role model across the African continents is praised by many for compassion for other people’s welfare, which can be seen throughout her musical career. She has a history of promoting literacy, advancing the rights of women and children, and has been on the frontline in the fight against malaria.
“I am pleased to confirm your appointment as NEPAD Agency Goodwill Ambassador with effect from 1 August 2018,” said Dr Ibrahim Mayaki, the NEPAD Agency’s CEO.
“Your commitment to supporting the NEPAD Agency through advocacy and communicating to a broad public will undoubtedly raise the profile of our continental projects.”
Back in 2006, Yvonne launched the Princess of Africa Foundation, which complements her other humanitarian works. Through the foundation, she has advocated for various philanthropic causes and mobilized resources to help people in need.
NEPAD, as the body charged by the African Union (AU) to implement policies that will bring about industrialization and wealth creation, human capital development, environmentally sustainable development, transform institutions, shared prosperity and transformed livelihoods. The organization has announced that Yvonne’s humanitarian causes have all along been in line with theirs and that she is the perfect candidate to serve as their ambassador for TB and Nutrition.
Yvonne’s duties as the NEPAD Ambassador will include advocating for food security and proper nutrition, which are vital in the fight against TB. She will also be in campaigns to drive public awareness of the challenges and solutions to eradicating TB across the continent of Africa.
