It’s official, Kenya’s Communications Authority (CA) has awarded Jamii Telecom 700MHz frequency that now allows the ISP, who was previously providing fiber-based internet connection, to provide mobile phone services using the prefix 0747.
Jamii Telecom has made a name for itself for providing reliable, fast speed, and affordable internet connection as an ISP deliver internet connection via fiber optic cables. Their prices per package is unrivaled by many ISPs from across Africa. The move by the CA to award them a 700MHz 4G frequency has not rubbed the existing mobile service carriers the wrong way. The current mobile service carriers in Kenya are currently providing 4G at an inferior 800MHz frequency.
The older carriers, Safaricom, Airtel, Telkom Kenya and Equitel were last year required to pay Ksh 2.5 billion each to get the superior 700MHz frequency.
The 700MHz frequency allows a telecom to provide superior 4G network with high internet speed and provide broadband-based TV broadcasts more cost-effectively. It is said to be better and efficient than the 800MHz frequency that older telecoms have been using to provide customers with 4G network.
Jamii Telecom is said to be working on stopping its fiber-based internet to services, Faiba Home, and will provide internet connection and mobile service on the 700MHz spectrum. Kenyans are already too excited about the latest telecom service to join the market and as a welcome package for subscriber, Jamii Telecom is providing free SIM cards.
Users can then buy a mobile Wi-Fi router (Mi-Fi) to enjoy the superior 4G connection at home or office. Faiba 4G is currently available in Nairobi, Mombasa, Kisumu, Eldoret, Nakuru, and Thika. The following are the ridiculously affordable internet package Faiba 4G is offering users that will likely sink its competitors ships from the get go.
