The webcams on your PCs are useful additions for when we are teleconferencing, and thus, it can be a bit frustrating when yours doesn’t work.

If you ever find yourself staring at a blank screen after opening your webcam app, especially on Windows 10 and 11, below are some fixes for you to try:

Ensure Nothing is Blocking the Camera

The first action is to ensure no obstructions in front of the camera. Wipe down the camera, and if your camera has a plastic privacy shutter, ensure it is fully open and the lens is visible.

If you use an external webcam connecting via USB, ensure it is connected.

Allow App Permission

Sometimes, your webcam might not be working because you have not enabled some permissions on the app.

Therefore, you will need to enable some apps permission to use the webcam for you to be able to use it.

Here is how to enable app permission on the webcam on Windows 10 and Windows 11.

Update all your Windows Features

Sometimes, you might be unable to use your webcam due to compatibility issues.

Thus, if the previous two didn’t work, try checking if there are any Windows updates available. Here is how to check for updates on your PC.

Try Adjusting the Webcam’s Official Software

In some cases, you might need to reset or skew your webcam app’s settings after updating the OS.

So, open the webcam program find the Preferences or Settings section, and then toggle around with the video and display settings to see if the webcam picture changes.

If none of these work, there are several more ways that you can troubleshoot your webcam until it works.

If none of these methods work, there could be a hardware problem with the webcam or connecting wires.
