How to Transfer Google Podcasts Subscriptions to YouTube Music

by Felix Omondi

Come April 2nd, Google Podcasts will no longer be available to users in the U.S. Other users from around the world will continue using the app a little bit longer, but the Podcasts’s curtain will undoubtedly close sometime later this year.

Switch from Google Podcasts to YouTube Music

Over the past years, the search engine giant has been consolidating, collapsing, and merging its various apps that more or less serve the same purpose. Against that backdrop, Google is pushing Google Podcast subscribers to switch to YouTube Music, a platform that offers a seamless transition and a wealth of new features.

Google first announced the planned closure of the Podcasts platform sometime last year. Since then, it has been sending periodic reminders to users about the platform’s imminent closure.

Recently, the company has displayed a conspicuous warning label on the app urging users to migrate their data from Google Podcasts to YouTube Music. Otherwise, they risk losing all their data once the platform is shut down.

July 2024 Deadline

Google Podcasts users have until July 2024 to migrate all their data to YouTube Music. In a blog post, the company announced:

Looking forward to 2023, we’ll be increasing our investment in the Podcasts experience on YouTube Music – making it a better overall destination for fans and Podcasters alike with YouTube-only capabilities across community, discovery, and audio/visual switching.”

How to Transfer Google Podcasts Data to YouTube Music

If you are a fan of Google Podcasts, this article will walk you through how to transfer your data to the new YouTube Music platform. Without much further ado, let us jump right into it:

Step 1: Launch the Google Podcasts app on your smartphone (Android or iOS)

Step 2: Click the Home Tab

Step 3: Look for the Google Podcasts notification and tap on it.

Step 4: You should see the Export Subscriptions option; tap on it.

Step 5: You will be directed to the YouTube Music app and asked to sign in with your Gmail account used on the Google Podcast. After signing in, all your Podcasts subscriptions will now be available on the YouTube Music platform.

The process is quite easy-peasy-lemon-squeezy. However, some reports indicate that only some of your listening subscriptions will roll over to the YouTube Music app platform. You will be met with ‘Content is unavailable’ when it comes to certain music. In such events, you can manually add the subscription and its RSS feed link.
