How to Calibrate Your Monitor for Better Colors

Have you ever stared at your monitor and thought the colors didn’t look right? Maybe they looked a little washed up or just unrealistically – colorful?

Color calibration is a process of fixing your screen so that it shows colors more accurately. Accurate color representation matters a lot, especially for professionals such as photographers or photo and video editors.

So, how do you calibrate the issue?

Windows 10

  1. Go to your Start Menu and then type in Calibrate Display Color.
  2. Click on the first result you will get, and this will open a Display Color Calibration. Ensure the monitor you want to calibrate is also open.
  3. Then follow the steps written onscreen to calibrate your monitor color, from gamma, brightness and color balance.

Windows 11

  1. Open your Control Panel, which you can find by searching for it on your Windows Settings.
  2. Once open, search for color management. Then click on color management and then on the Advanced tab for options on calibrating the display.
  3. Then, select the Calibrate display button close to the bottom of the window. You will be required to enter your username or password to make the changes.
  4. Windows will then bring you a set of instructions on how to adjust the screen. After making changes, click Finish to update the settings.

MacOS

If you are using Apple Mac, then you will follow these steps:

  1. Go to System Settings; then open Displays.
  2. Then, under Displays, go to Color Profile. Here, you will select any profile which fits with your current display in the dropdown menu.
  3. Then, select Customize to choose a color profile matching your monitor.
  4. When you click Customize, there will open a color profile window. Close to the bottom will be the + icon, which you will use to launch the Display Calibrator Assistant.
  5. Then follow the steps to calibrate your monitor properly. Once changes are made, MacOS will let you save the changes.

There are also other ways that you can use to calibrate your monitor screen for better colors. So, use these tools and watch the colors on your monitor come to life!
