How to Hide Apps on Your Android Phone

by Roveen

Sometimes, you might have an app which, while useful to you, you might not want someone else to gain access to it.

If you have an android phone, we look at how you can hide apps on that OS.

First we start with a Samsung phone. Below are simple ways that you can hide an app from your home screen.

  1. Long press on any empty space on the Home screen of the device.
  2. This long press will bring you a menu. Tap on Settings on this menu.
  3. Then, scroll down and select Hide Apps on the Home and Apps screen. You will get a selection of all apps on your device. Choose from these which apps you want to hide.
  4. Then click on Done to apply the changes

Once selected, you will see that all selected apps will disappear from the phone’s app drawer, both on the home screen and on the main drawer.

Hiding Apps on Other Android Devices

On other android phones such as Google Pixels and the likes, you do not get an inbuilt option to hide apps. You can always use a third party launcher or app to achieve this.

If not, you can always disable the apps, though this will only apply on system apps which are already pre-installed on your phone, not those from Play Store.

  1. Go to your app drawer and find the app you want to hide.
  2. Long press the app and then select App info.
  3. This will take you to the apps setting screen.
  4. You will get several options, such as Open, Disable and Force Stop.
  5. Tap on Disable then click on Disable App.

This will remove the app from your app drawer. However, the downside with this is that you will be unable to use that app until you have re-enabled it.
