According to recent data, most Americans over the age of 18 have smoked marijuana at some point in their lives. If you’re about to enjoy your first time smoking weed, it can be easy to feel a bit intimidated, though.
We get it: taking any drug for the first time is (rightfully) going to be a bit trepidatious. To help you, we’ve put together a list of tips to help you enjoy your first time smoking marijuana.
Ready to get started? Roll up and read on!
1. Start Slow
It’s easy to think that you can roll up a blunt or a joint and smoke the whole thing. That’s not the best way to take your first toke unless you want to get really, really high.
Roll up a small joint and then take a couple of puffs. We’re talking literally about two puffs, then put it down.
Weed takes about 10 minutes to take effect: if after 10 minutes, you’re not feeling toasted or you want to get higher, light up again and take another puff.
Finding your tolerance is a really important part of “weed for beginners.”
If you’re not keen on smoking a blunt or a joint for your first time, then we’d recommend looking at pipes like the chillum pipe.
2. Know the Strain
Different strains of marijuana can have very different effects. The short guide is that cannabis sativa gives you an uplifted feeling: this is the typical mental high that you might expect from marijuana and can give you a lot of energy. Cannabis indica on the other hand gives you a huge body high and is amazing for relaxation or lounging around watching movies.
If you’re anxious, indica is probably a better strain for you than sativa. We’d recommend taking a look at specific strain reviews on a site like Leafly and finding a strain with the right combination of effects for you.
3. Plan Some Fun Activities
If you’re worried about feeling anxious or paranoid, planning some activities before you light up is a great idea. This way you’re not lost thinking about what to do: you can head straight to your lounge and sit down and watch a movie or what have you.
Some great ideas for what to do when high include:
Playing video games
Watching a movie
Listening to music
Playing musical instruments
Going for a walk with friends
4. Don’t Smoke Alone for Your First Time
When it’s your first time smoking weed, don’t smoke alone. Having friends with you can help calm any jangled nerves and make the experience much more fun.
First Time Smoking Weed? Enjoy it
Your first time smoking weed is bound to be a little bit stressful but follow the tips that we’ve laid out and we’re sure you’ll have a great time. If you start to feel anxious or paranoid, remember that the high will wear off within a few hours, so try to keep occupied and let your body process the weed.
