On September 25, 2014, #DEMOAfrica2014 kicked off with a bang. The event played host to telecom giants MTN and Airtel. In addition, cab servicing company Afrocab and Uber were also on deck, plus start-ups ranging from Education to Agriculture were ready pitch.

Some of speakers at the DEMO Africa event included: Harry Hare, Executive Producer of DEMO Africa, Peter Jack, Director General, NITDA Nigeria, Neal Silverman, Senior VP of DEMO global, John Momoh (Channels Television Nigeria), together with Viktor Okigbo (IDEA Nigeria), and Omobola Johnson, the Honorable Minister of Communication Technology of Nigeria who official opened the event.

The startups that took the stage today included; VOTO Mobile! (Ghana), Samuel Nuguna; Chura (Kenya), Hutbay, Nigeria’s real estate marketplace, Solomon Bleay; Mobile Jobs (Ethiopia), Elvis Austins; SpellAfrica (Nigeria),Omoniyi Faladun; Feedbackplus (Nigeria), Asmeret Gebre; Online Hisab (Ethiopia), Osborn Kwateng; Paysail (Ghana), Tope Olutola – ConnectFinance (Nigeria), Foodstantly (Nigeria), and SmartPesa (South Africa). Each start up was given six minutes to pitch to potential investors.
