How to Mute Unknown Number Callers on WhatsApp

Granted, WhatsApp has become ubiquitous when it comes to keeping in touch with family and friends. So much so that there are people out there who can’t remember the last time they loaded airtime call credit on their phones to make traditional calls.

Provided you got a stable and fast Wi-Fi connection, you’re just good to go. Unfortunately, this trend is catching on across the general public. To the extent that more and more people are forgetting some basic phone courtesies:

VoIP is for Intimate Friends

Just because you have someone’s number does not mean you can call them outside the traditional calls; or within the generally accepted times of the day. Sure, a call is a call whether made via traditional GSM call or over the VoIP apps like WhatsApp, Telegram, etc.

However, you must understand you need explicit permission to start calling an individual over VoIP. Otherwise, stick to the traditional calls and within working hours. Unless you and that person know each other on a more intimate level.

How to Stop Unknown Numbers from Calling You on WhatsApp

As a user, you can protect yourself from having unknown numbers from calling you via WhatsApp. Simply follow the instructions below:

Launch the WhatsApp app on your phone, then go to Settings > Privacy > Calls.

Here you will find a toggle to disable unknown callers from calling you. By default, the settings is at off.

Turn the toggle on, and by doing so, you will have effectively stopped unknown callers from calling you on WhatsApp.

When Unknown Callers do call

Once you have enabled the above-mentioned feature, calls from unknown callers will get through. However, you will not get any notification. You will simply see a missed call on your WhatsApp calls tab. In this case, you can decide whether to return the call or not.
